Michael Dorsey is a life-long Illinois resident who grew up in Champaign county doing farm work with his three brothers. His parents were hardworking and steadfast supporters of their boys. His mother especially encouraged education. Michael worked as a waiter and bartender and graduated from the University of Illinois with a BS in psychology in 1971. He worked on the assembly line at International Harvester in East Moline for six years and was an active United Auto Worker union member. He was also a staff member at a commune that provided food and shelter to battered women and the destitute during that time. Linda Rappenecker, a dedicated junior-high teacher, married Michael in 1975. He graduated from the University of Illinois law school in 1980 and practiced law in small firms in central Illinois and as a prosecutor in Vermilion county. He then worked as a litigation attorney at Caterpillar in Peoria for almost twenty-five years until he became a free agent in February, 2009.В  For many years, Michael worked for and supported human rights organizations such as Amnesty International and the Southern Poverty Law Center.В  Linda and Michael have been married for thirty-five years and have four grown children and one granddaughter. In addition, Michael has studied philosophy, science, law, politics, current events, and various other areas for more than forty years.
